Hoobaadeebadooo! I am the greatest, I am the best ciritic in the world! Ehh not really...but
maybe. Im gonna make this intro make you say "This is crazy." C'mon say it with me THIS IS CRAZY!!!!! HAHAHA!
This is not a remake as some may think. This is the next film in the Superman series, its
the 6th I believe, but who's counting. In this sequal titled Superman Returns, it means exactly what the title says, Superman
returns, after a 5 year absence, in which he went to see if his home planet had actually been death ridden. Well it was, and
now he returns and low and behold Lex Luthor, played by the brilliant Kevin Spacey, has broken out of prison and attempts
to conquer the world.....uhhh again.
Newcomer to the screen Brandon Routh is the man of steel, he plays it well, but lacks emotion,
his chemistry with Lois Lane(Bosworth) is a bit, for lack of a better term, not there. He's convincing in his interactions
with the public and during action scenes, but theres room for improvement. Kevin Spacey is a great Lex Luthor, but we never
get to explore his character into any depth, he's just there and we excpet he is evil because we know of him from the previous
films. The woman that accompanied Luthor in the film was very aggrivating, and just plain annoying when on the screen, I believe
she was played by Parker Posey, and I dont think its her fault for the character's annyoance, its the material.
The story is lacking of excitment or emotion. You might say there too many scenes of character
development, but yet there is a definite lack of that, so what is in these scenes. Well they are just interactions, and too
many of those can lead to "looking at the watch" or more commonly known as boredom. I will credit the writers including the
Brando voice over, that was a great thing to do.
The action sequences are refreshing and fun to watch. Some of the greatest effects ever put
into film are in Superman Returns. Just plain amazing visuals! They were definately the best aspect of the film.
While some of it is great fun and eexcellent filmmaking, there is just too much
of...well, nothing. Theres too much nothing. Lack of character develpment, and audience involvement. If you go in with
low expectations, you might enjoy yourself.
-Great action scenes
-Lack of character development
