All hail the sequals to animated films! Ice Age marks only the third computer animated film
to get a sequal, the others being Toy Story and Shrek. This of course means that the first of the series must do well with
both the audience and boxoffice. Ice Age achieved that, garnering 170+ mil just in the US, and much more overseas. So a
sequal was basically a surety, and out pops Ice Age: The Meltdown.
Ice Age: The Meltdown starts right wher ethe first one left off. The ice age is now starting
to end, and the ice is melting. Manny, Diego, and Sid after seeing the otherside of a wall of ice see this and warnnthe other
animals that is time to go. On there way to a gint boat on the otherside of the valley they meet some new faces, such as Elley
a female mammoth and her two brothers which happened to be possums.
There plenty of laughs in this film, more so than the first. Sid usually packs the load of
humor, but now he has accomplices in the two possum brothers and Scrat. Scrat, the little rodent hell-bent on getting and
acorn, has much more screentime in this sequal, which is definatley a good thing. One can never get enough of that guy. The
rest of the characters have their share of humorous occasions but not as much as the ones I've mentioned.
The story is lacking in comparison to the first. Its a fine story and it works, but its
not as polished and easily flowing as the first. It seems scattered and not cohesive, but its not much of a hinderance.
The story is better than most sequals just due to the fact that it starts off where the first one ended, instead of trying
some new and outrageous story that can become pretty bad if not done right. But there are some moments in the story that are
better than its predecessors, so I guess in some way it balances out.
There is much more adult material and jokes in this one, definately warranting its "PG" rating,
this will please the older viewers, which is why the older viewers go in the first place. I dont think its enough to stop
parents form taking their children, cause they wont care to research it for content, shame on them.
Ice Age: The Meltdown is a very worthy sequal that is just as great as the original. It has
very good humor, great characters, and top notch CGI. Come and see of the goodness.
-Very good humor
-Plot line is good
-Story is lacking compared to original.
